Assessment of physicochemical and bacteriological quality of drinking water in Sapele local government area of Delta State, South-South, Nigeria

Abstract Drinking water quality for human consumption is a global matter of paramount importance. The study aimed to assess the physicochemical and bacteriological drinking from five major sources in Sapele, Delta State. Using convenient sampling method, 40 samples were collected river, rain, well, borehole, sachet examined characteristics. pH ranged 4.5 6.8, total dissolved solids (TDS) between 5 14,000 mg/l, electrical conductivity (EC) 10 740 ?S/cm, turbidity 0.01 23.9 NTU. Mean levels chloride, calcium, iron, lead, copper, cadmium below maximal permissible ceilings based on WHO NSDWQ standards. coliform count 0 9,000 MN/100 ml, with mean concentration ranging 0.001 1,268.13 MPN/100 ml. Water different had parameters within stipulated standards, but biological revealed contamination. It recommended that consumers these employ measures purify their forestall potential health risks.
